The Arizona Cattle Growers' Association (ACGA) was founded over 100 years ago when a small group of concerned cattlemen took it upon themselves to help structure the future of the cattle industry in this great state. Their primary concern, that there be orderly, systematic laws protecting livestock and property.

Where we came from
Emmett & Lori Sturgill, Owners, were married in April 2016, but have been operating together for 9 years, prior to that Emmett’s story goes much further back into the cattle business. Emmett’s father was a cowboy and his mother was a nurse. He grew up in Northern Arizona, and also spent some time in Montana, on various ranches where my dad worked. He accompanied his dad on the works and knew as a young boy he would be a cowboy. He bought his first herd of cattle in 1974 and have been involved in the cattle business in one form or another since that time. In 1990 he leased the Valentine Ranch and have since sold his interest to his son and his wife Justin and Shelly, who also have 2 sons, Hunter and Justin Jr. In 1993 he leased the Canyon Springs Ranch, north of Kingman from Darrel Cale.
In 1999 he purchased the ranch, with a partner, and had run a successful Corrientes cow/calf operation until 2015, when he sold his interest to his partner.

In 2008 he leased the Cedar Canyon Ranch a 600 head permit cow/calf operation and in 2009, Emmett and Lori joined together and moved to the headquarters of the ranch, which is where they now reside. In 2015 they purchased Cedar ranch and run a successful Red and Black Angus cow/calf operation.

Also in 2015, Emmett & Lori purchased the Diamond Bar Ranch, a 373 head permit, where they raise Corrientes and have another cow/calf operation.

In 2009, after 35 years, I retired from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, as the Supervisor of a multi-agency narcotics task force. Lori retired from a 30 year real estate career, as the owner/broker of West USA Realty.

Together they started Rafter S Cattle Company LLC
